St Theresa's was founded in 1991 to cater for the needs of adult homeless and other needy people in Peterborough. It also catered for families with young children and moved into a former school in Manor House Street which it rented from the Catholic Diocese of East Anglia. Up to 1997 it was open two days per week to the homeless and two days per week as a Day Centre for families. Because the demand for both groups had significantly increased, St Theresa's was opened to single "homeless" adults five days per week in 1997, and the Family Centre was relocated to Dogsthorpe. The Family Centre was subsequently closed in May 2008 due to a lack of funding.

We continue to provide at Manor House Street, a safe and secure environment where people come to relax and socialise. We provide food, clothing, laundry services, showers, health related activities, counselling, holistic therapies, resettlement advice, tenancy support, vocational training and welfare assistance. Many of the people who use St Theresa's suffer from psychological and emotional stress, often from an early age. Others have problems with relationships, which sometimes have affected them since childhood and may continue into adulthood. Most feel isolated, abandoned and alienated from society. Some live on the streets and have no legal address. They all need support and encouragement.
St Theresa's is an independent charitable foundation, and is responsible for the management of two separate projects, which are based in the City of Peterborough and deal with the care, education and the relief of poverty, suffering and hardship of the vulnerable groups in the City. We run the St Theresa's Day Centre in Manor House Street and a Charity shop in Park Road.
