St. Theresa’s Day Centre
St Theresa's exists to help the homeless, the poor and the socially excluded in the City of Peterborough. It aims to do this through material help, skills training and psychological and emotional support.
- The Day Centre is located at 13-15 Manor House St, Peterborough PE1 2TL
- The Centre is open Mondays to Fridays 10am – 4pm
- We are staffed by a small, dedicated team with many years' experience of life and matters affecting the homeless and poor. There is also a group of valuable volunteers who help and support our work.
- It is an open access facility from 10am - 1.30pm to those aged 18 or over who are homeless or claiming a social benefit
- From 1.30pm – 4pm structured meaningful activities can be accessed by our clients.
- There is a controlled admissions policy affecting those who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We operate a zero tolerance policy to illegal drugs and alcohol in the Centre but actively encourage users to access our offered services plus those outreach facilities offered by our partner agencies within the Centre.
- The Centre offers: Breakfast from 10 – 10.45am plus a 2-course meal from 12.30 - 1.30pm with hot drinks and snacks throughout the day. A small charge is made.
- Toilets, showers and laundry facilities.
- Emergency food parcels to those in desperate need.
- A thrift shop stocked with second hand clothes, bric-a-brac and furniture, which we will collect if donors are unable to bring the items to the Centre.
- Counselling and holistic relaxation therapies ie. Yoga, Indian head massage, Reflexology and Reiki
- Housing, Resettlement and Benefits advice
- An annual health check and flu jab by qualified doctors and nurses.
- Our Healthy Lifestyles programme, sponsored by the Big Lottery, gives clients access to sports activities, smoking cessation and achievement of personal health targets.
- A hairdresser calls every 4 weeks to cut clients’ hair.
- St Theresa's are agents for the Big Issue magazine in Peterborough and Stamford.
Many of the people who use the Centre suffer from psychological and emotional stress, often from an early age. Others have problems with relationships, which sometimes have affected them since childhood. Most feel isolated, abandoned and alienated from society with some living on the streets with nowhere to go. They all need our support and encouragement.
