Peterborough Streets Day Centre
The Day Centre provides a safe and secure environment where the homeless can access low priced hot food, clothing, laundry services, and showers as well as free health related activities, counselling, resettlement advice, tenancy support, vocational training and welfare assistance. The Centre is an open access facility for those aged 18 or over who are homeless or claiming a social benefit.
Key services provided by the Day Centre include:
- Housing, Resettlement and Benefits advice
- Annual health checks and flu jabs by qualified doctors and nurses.
- Smoking cessation and reduction programmes
- Healthy eating and cooking classes
- IT skills, numeracy and literacy classes
- Peterborough Streets are agents for the Big Issue magazine in Peterborough and Stamford
- Low priced hot food. Breakfast is served from 9.30 - 10.30am with a 2-course meal served from 12.30 - 1.30pm. Hot drinks and snacks are available throughout the day.
- Workshops on a range of topics including overdose training, preventing hypothermia, first aid
- Social activities such as table tennis and football competitions
- Free professional counselling sessions
- Access to Wood green Animal Centre drop in services for client's cats and dogs. Services provided free of charge include operations de-fleaing, de-worming, electronic tagging, food etc
- Laundry and drying facilities
- Access to hot showers and free provision of towel, shampoo, shower gel and shaving equipment
On average the Day Centre:
- Receives over 2000 individual visits each month
- Welcomes nearly 90 clients every working day
- Serves over 800 inexpensive hot meals each month
- Distributes over 250 emergency food parcels for those in desperate need each year
