Nominating St.Theresa's as your chosen charity
St.Theresa's is an independent registered charity, which was formed in 1991 specifically to care, support and help the poor and homeless people in the City of Peterborough. Last year over 1500 individual clients used the facilities of St Theresa’s Day Centre in Manor House Street, Peterborough.
We deal with all aspects of care, education and the relief of poverty, suffering and hardship of all vulnerable groups in the City of Peterborough. These are people who are alienated from society, those living alone, those trying to cope with relationship breakdowns, those with alcohol and substance misuse, those who have suffered physical and sexual abuse. Also those who find it difficult to cope and those who are suicidal and want to end it all - these are the people you would be helping.
St. Theresa’s has no statutory funding. The money we need to continue providing our services is either generated through fulfilling service contracts for other agencies or through the generosity of sponsors and well-wishers. To continue serving the disadvantaged people of Peterborough we need your continued support.
John Raises £438 For St Theresa's Homeless Day Centre
John Pooley rode the 55 miles of Peterborough's Green Wheel to raise funds for St Theresa's who run the homeless Day Centre in Manor House St. The ride was completed on Saturday 6th June.
Spokesperson for St Theresa's, Doug Styles, Centre Manager said: "We would like to thank John for the money he has raised. To have cycled so far in one day for our cause is an excellent achievement. John has been a previous volunteer and client at our Centre and we are so pleased that he has made this effort on our behalf and on behalf of all the clients who use the services of the Charity."
John says " I was happy to help the Charity as they helped me when I was at my lowest. I was homeless and sleeping rough on the streets and St Theresa's provided me with a place to stay during the day with hot food and shelter. They were very supportive and helped me back on to my feet so I was really pleased to be able to give something back"
Ways you can help St. Theresa’s
1. Nominate St Theresa’s as your chosen charity
If you are able to influence the business you either own or work for, consider nominating St.Theresa's as your chosen charity. You would be a prime mover in creating and building upon a relationship that not only benefits the people we care for but also benefits you - ultimately creating a team spirit and a partnership between business and community by working together.
2. Donations to St. Theresa’s
Donations can be in kind, e.g. your time as a volunteer (see Become a Volunteer page). Or you could consider donating unwanted items – clothing, foodstuffs, furniture, white goods etc. – all these can be put to good use in helping those in need. We will collect items from you if you are unable to bring them to us.
Of course, donations of money are always welcome, either in cash or as part of a more structured programme. There are tax benefits in making charity donations – we will happily make the necessary arrangements via Gift Aid to maximise the value of your donation.
Donate your old mobile phones:
We are currently asking the people of Peterborough to search out those old mobile phones they don’t know what to do with and give them to us. It doesn’t matter how old they are, or what condition they are in. We will be paid £3 for every mobile we collect by Foneaid and as an added bonus for every 100 mobiles we will be given £100 in Argos vouchers for use in buying equipment for the Charity.
Geoff Johnson, fundraiser, said: "In terms of helping St Theresa’s, we regularly get food donations from a number of generous people and companies but we still need to buy in fresh meat and veg. It may not sound a lot, but to supplement the food, we need to support the 100 or so people seeking our help daily, so we figure that 30 phones will pay for one week’s food for the homeless and those most vulnerable in society who need our help"
Phones can be dropped off at the Day Centre, the Charity Shop in Park Road, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire or at the Evening Telegraph offices.
3. Other ways of giving
Other ways of donating include sponsorship, covenants, legacies and payroll giving. If you wish to discuss the details of any of these ways of donating, please give Doug Styles a call at the Day Centre.
You can also donate money to us directly by selling items on E-bay and allocating the money direct to the Charity's bank account.
4. Spreading the Word
We are ready to help you with awareness talks, information systems and a general explanation of the work we do.
